The early season races are in full swing and the marquee meets with stacked competition are just around the corner.  Families and teams are traveling across the state to courses of all terrains and varying degrees of difficulty to chase their goals.  The puzzle is slowly taking shape for many teams as the runners rising to the top five becomes evident.

Training through early season meets has always been my approach to prepare for November. This XC season at Pasco is no different. It felt good to win our home XC race which is held annually in memory of former Pasco High XC runner Steven Villareal who died in a motorcycle accident.  I felt very relaxed and was able to focus on tempo pace without having to push.  Fine tuning details progressively throughout the season is the objective.  State Championships and Foot Locker South are the obvious ultimate goals for any competitive high school runner, along with helping your teammates improve.   Achieving a personal record in late November means my season training unfolded as planned and enables me to close with momentum as well as motivation for the next season.

Cross Country and Track are the most legitimate of all sports in my opinion as success is a direct correlation to the work you consistently put in.  A desire to be great can not be realized without putting in the miles each day, regardless of distractions, weather, and daily obligations.   It's always clear who has put in the off season work dedicated to improving.  Within every successful runner you will find dedication, goals, great attitude, perseverance, competitiveness, and resilience.   I believe those traits provide runners a path to success in life.

I want to thank my family, Pasco High, teammates, coaches, and the many runners I have met this summer as well as during the early season meets.  This has helped me feel welcome in a new school, community, and out at the XC meets.  I look forward to representing Pasco High this senior XC season and racing Florida's top talent.

As the competition heats up and the temperatures cool down, keep up to date with my DistancePreps blog.

Good Luck to everyone on their upcoming races!!
