DistancePreps.com NewsFlash - The recruiting process took a final turn for Stanton Prep's Wesley Norton as he committed to Coach Pigg's University of North Florida distance squad as a student-athlete yesterday.

Wesley most recently was the 3A District runner-up and finished 7th at the 3A Region 1 meet held last week at Alligator Lake.  His Stanton Prep team finished 6th at the Regional and will compete at the State Meet tomorrow.  Wesley's PR in the 5K came at the FSU Pre-State Invitational where he won his race handidly going 15:22.28.

Wesley will be joining an Osprey program that is being rebuilt under the guidance of Coach Jeff Pigg who will be in his third year with the Osprey Program.  The Osprey's most recently finished 5th at the Altantic Sun Cross Country Championships. 

Wesley notes, "the recruiting process was fun! I never really talked to any coaches besides UNF. I looked at a few places but in the end I love what they have going at UNF, and I'm exited to be a part of it in the coming years!  I chose UNF for a few reasons. I took two visits, on the first unofficial visit I went in with not that great of an opinion about the school, I came out in love. Coach Pigg and Kindt are both super friendly, and they really made me feel like I was wanted. I also talked to some other guys who are considering UNF and they had the same feelings I did. The atmosphere is fun, but serious at the same time, similar to my high school program. Needless to say I can't wait!  I think I have a fair amount of upside because I have never put in miles until this past summer, which has lead to me dropping over a minute from last year already. I also think I have the leg speed to make some contributions on the track side in the 1500.  I plan to major in exercise science, then get my Doctorate in Physical Therapy."
