5 Things I Learned this Weekend - Florida Five

5 Things We Learned This Weekend:

1. There's nothing better to reinvigorate a long season than a really good competitive "battle" out on the course.  Cory Sayyeau and I previewed the boys Cape Coast Conference Championships and figured Titusville would more than likely have too much fire-power up front for a serious challenge from the likes of "The Rock".  Wrong.  Watch our "Race of the Week" here to see what we mean.  When it was all said and done, days later it was confirmed the Rockledge Boys had secured the Cape Coast Conference Boys Championship winning on the 6th man in a tie-breaker over Titusville.

2.  We've had 3 significant college comittments so far this season.  First, it was Freedom's Connor Ferrentino followed by "The Green Wave's" Emily Edwards and most recently Gulf Coast's Caroline Barlow.  We find it really interesting Coaches Waters and Tribble from the University of Alabama have been able to secure the commitments of these fine athletes to join fellow Floridians Katelyn Greenleaf and Olivia Ortiz in Tuscaloosa, away from the Sunshine State.

3.  Our Girls "Frosh of the Week" Daesha Rogers seems to be rounding into shape after battling shin splints most of the season winning the GMAC Invitational Friday in 19:03.  Although Daesha is at a new school and is now under the direction of Coach Jackson at Miami Jackson, we think we'll see a slow gradual progression of her racing style; out hard, holding on, and finishing strong.

4. For years now I've advocated that it's a tough job being meet management for cross country races advertised as 5K's.  We also believe every runner deserves to have the course measured and should know the course length to the meter no later than the Coaches Meeting.  A simple facet that is so rudimentary it just annoys us when people then sqauwk over the course and do nothing to change the system.  Without accountability, meet mis-management will continue to plague the sport

5.  The most under-rated runner in the State may very well be Imokalee's Leonel Delacruz.  We'll see if the State Series bears us out.
