DistancePreps.com Frosh of the Week 3Published by
At DistancePreps.com our motto is "The Future Runs Now" and to help celebrate the 2013 XC season, we have decided to start highlighting our future stars in a segment called "Frosh of the Week".
Haley Kling, Pace HS (Gulf Coast Stampede 20:20.30) Haley Kling is Girls "Frosh of the Week".
Haley is an instrumental member of the Pace Patriot XC team which is currently ranked #4 in the latest 3A FACA Coaches Ranking poll after finishing 2nd at the Gulf Coast Stampede. She is on the verge of going sub 20 as her current PR is 20:11.63 which she set at the Washington Wildcat Invitational. Haley is amongst the top 15 freshman in the State with a really bright future !
Coach James Martin, Pace HS
Haley Kling is a very hard worker. She runs beyond her years meaning she is very focused at practice and during meets. Her running abilities are built upon a strong soccer foundation as she has played soccer since she was old enough to walk and even now she plays on a select team but she always manages to get her XC workouts in while still playing soccer. There is no doubt that Haley has been blessed with raw talent and we are bringing that out every meet as she continues to improve and help the team. She has a strong influence from her parents as they are very involved in her activities. Her parents help her do her best on the field and in the classroom. Having a great role model like her older sister is also a big help. Rachel gives her pointers and helps push her to be her best.
Trevor Kattenberg, Holy Trinity HS (Mountain Dew Invitational 16:10.53)
Trevor Kattenberg is Boys "Frosh of the Week".
Trevor is also a very instrumental team member for the Holy Trinity Tigers who are the defending 1A State Cross Country Champions and presently ranked #1 in the FACA Coaches poll. His 16:10.53 PR leads all the freshmen in the State by a whopping 37 seconds over the second fastest boy in the State, which by the way just happens to be another excellent runner from the same household, his brother Egan ! Trevor opened up his season at the Wickham Park Jamboree finishing 4th overall. The following week at Katie Caples, Trevor finished 9th overall as the Tigers finished 4th in the Elite race division and this past weekend finished just outside the top 10 at the Mountain Dew Invitational placing 12.
We've seen Trevor train and race quite a bit over the past few years under the watchful eye of Coach Butler and we can certainly attest to Coach Butler's observations below.
