At DistancePreps.com our motto is "The Future Runs Now" and to help celebrate the 2013 XC season we are 7 weeks into highlighting our future stars and dedicated young runners as "Frosh of the Week".

Katherine Jovanovic, Pine Crest (FSU/Pre-State Invitational 18:48.89)

Katherine Jovanovic is our Girls "Frosh of the Week".

Katherine has been on a tear and this past weekend at the FSU/Pre-State Invitational moved past the 19's and into the 18's with a PR 18:48.  She is definitely having fun - "I am enjoying my freshman season so much because I have improved so much from last year. I just tried to work really hard this summer in order to achieve my goals. I am also so proud of all of my teammates because being successful as a team is one of our top priorities."

Coach Baur, Pine Crest

Katherine had a great summer logging quality mileage and hill work as she spent most of the summer in North Carolina.

In just her 2nd year of Cross Country, Katherine used her favorite race course to turn in a huge PR for us this season.  She dropped 35 seconds to place 28th overall in the Girls Elite race at the FSU/Pre-State Invitational and helped her team to a 7th place finish.  Last season, Pre-State was her first 5k race with the Pine Crest varsity team.  She ran 21:20 that day and eventually improved to 19:54 that season and finished 25th at the 2012 State Meet, helping her team to earn State Runner-Up.  She continued in her inaugural track season finishing 7th at the 2A State Track Meet in the 3200m with a time of 11:27.77 and helped her team to a 3rd place finish.

She is currently ranked #7 in 2A according to the latest FACA Poll and hopes to finish on the podium individually and with her team on November 9th, her 15th birthday, in Tallahassee.

Alex Boucher, Winter Park (FSU/Pre-State 16:36.85)

Alex Boucher is our Boys "Frosh of the Week".

The progression is occurring rapidly for Winter Park Wildcat Alex Boucher.  After hitting the summer track circuit as an upcoming freshman, Alex posted an extremely impressive 2:04 800m PR which is a good sign he has speed on his side.  Alex's 5K PR is now in the 16's after an impressive performance this past weekend at the FSU/Pre-State Invitational.  Alex seems to thrive on big races and the added pressure of being a scorer for the Wildcats.  "I have enjoyed my freshman year of XC at WPHS so far. My coaches do a great job.  I really want to keep getting better and I am hoping that I will be able to run again in Tallahassee this season."

Intense passion pretty much ensures Alex is only going to get better and be a force at the elite level throughout the State fairly soon. It's not too often we see speed and endurance of this quality in a Frosh, so Alex surely has a bright future ahead of him.

Coach Kozub, Winter Park

Alex is a hard worker in practice and is a head hunter in a race. Every practice is intense, he competes with his brother Jackson (10) , Ryan Sullivan (9), and Nick Strange (11) on every repetition, every interval, every mile, and every race. He really popped one at pre state and he is really learning how to race. I feel his best race is two to three weeks away.

There are many factors that come into play when determining the "Frosh of the Week", including; time, place, rank against other freshmen, and overall impact they have on their team. We will not highlight the same Frosh more than once and the honors are purely subjective. If you wish to nominate your athlete for "Frosh of the Week" e-mail us at [email protected] with their name and why they are deserving of the honor.
