At DistancePreps.com our motto is "The Future Runs Now."  To help celebrate the 2013 XC season, we are 8 weeks into highlighting our future stars and dedicated young runners as "Frosh of the Week".

Daesha Rogers,  Miami Jackson (GMAC Invitational 19:03)

Daesha Rogers is our Girls "Frosh of the Week".

It's sometimes hard to realize that Daesha is just now a Freshman.  One of the most stellar young careers of any athlete has led to years of admiration and national attention.  After being at Plantation's American Heritage the last few years, Daesha has since transferred to Miami Jackson and is now a full-fledged high schooler and one of the top distance runners in the State.  Known more for her prowess on the track, Daesha was the State third-place finisher in XC in 2012.  A long summer track season and early season shin splints has kept Daesha off the radar screens of most followers, up until now!  Her win at the GMAC Championships last week in 19:03 signalled Daesha is rounding into shape and everyone needs to take notice.  With 3 significant meets in the State series, we may not see the best of Daesha until it really matters at State.  According to Coach Jackson, Daesha's workload has now increased but is still somewhat cautious. Known as a real competitor who likes to run hard from the front, expect to see plenty of Miami Jackon's Daesha Rogers over the next 4 years.

Jonathan Pugh, Titusville (Cape Coast Conference )

Jonathan Pugh is our Boys "Frosh of the Week".

According to Coach Jones who is putting together a solid team at Titusville, Jonathon is a very hard worker who has been consistently improving each week,  placing in his top 3 runners every race since the Wickham Park Jamboree where he was #4 for the Terriers.  Known early on for his mental toughness, Coach Jones believes Jonathan is very capable of running in the low 16's at some point during the State Series. A few weeks ago, Jonathan placed 10th in his race at the Disney Cross Country Classic going 17 flat to help the Terriers finish 2nd, behind a very talented McKeel Academy team.

Just this past weekend, Jonathan finished 8th overall going 17:10 in the hotly contested team battle with Rockledge.  Jonathan's 8th place finish was pivotal as the race went to a tie-breaker with Rockledge securing the Cape Coast Conference Championship with a good teaching point for all involved.  Every spot counts.

There are many factors that come into play when determining the "Frosh of the Week", including; time, place, rank against other freshmen, and overall impact they have on their team. We will not highlight the same Frosh more than once and the honors are purely subjective. If you wish to nominate your athlete for "Frosh of the Week" e-mail us at [email protected] with their name and why they are deserving of the honor.
