Carpenter carries torch for winning Knights team

Coming into this season, Vanguard junior Audrey Carpenter wasn't sure how things would go after battling through a foot injury last year.

GIRLS RUNNER OF THE YEAR

Audrey Carpenter, Vanguard: The junior was named the Knights' most valuable runner for their ninth-place state team. Carpenter's best time this season was 18:55.

It turned out she didn't have anything to worry about.

Carpenter led the Knights to their second regional team championship and their 10th straight county title on her way to earning Star-Banner girls cross country runner of the year honors.
