Land O' Lakes stalwarts Tyler Stahl and Travis Nichols have verbally committed to Coach Jeff Pigg and the University of North Florida Ospreys.  The Ospreys have now picked up 5 commitments from several prominent in-State harriers and appears to have a great recruiting class as they aim to become known as a real power-house distance based squad.

Tyler most recently 15:31 at Foot Locker South and Travis went 15:58.  Both Tyler and Travis represented Coach Keppel's team winning West team with Tyler 3rd and Travis 6th at the FACA All-Star Classic.

Also committing earlier this year to the Osprey's was Niceville's Nick Morken, Ft Myers Tyler Bennett and Stanton Preps Wesley Norton.

We recently caught up with Tyler:

How did you get to the point where your seen as one of the best seniors in the Sunshine State?

I just worked really hard and kept putting in good miles over the summer. I also trained smart, drank more water, and got more rest. Also, especially towards the end of the season, I developed a mentality that helped me push even harder and compete with others who I had never even been close to before.

How did you narrow down the schools you ultimately considered?  Why North Florida?

I had only majorly considered two schools, but the decision was still tough. Ultimately, I chose North Florida because I like the direction the team is going, I feel like we'll have a strong future, and I just like the atmosphere of the team and also the campus.

What did you learn from the process that you would share with other athletes?

The process is exciting, and can be stressful when making a decision comes. However, I think it is important to not only think about the running aspect of it, but to think about the academics and the people you'll be around.

The Ospreys have now landed 5 recruits and seem to have a really good incoming class.  What kind of athlete and person are the Ospreys getting?

The Ospreys are getting a hardworking and dedicated athlete, and I will try as hard as I can to become the best athlete I can become and to become the best person I can become while at the university.

What are your strengths and if any, weaknesses that you hope to hone at UNF?

I think my strengths are my ability to push through the pain, along with my perseverance and positive attitude. I hope to improve my endurance so I can get stronger as the race goes on.

What do you plan on studying?

I plan on studying criminal justice.
